Nonlinear crystal

Nonlinear Crystals
Optogama provides nonlinear crystals used for wavelength conversion and optical control of laser light.
These crystals are used in applications such as SHG (second harmonic generation), sum-frequency and difference-frequency generation, and optical parametric oscillation (OPO), and they cover a wide wavelength range from ultraviolet to infrared.
Our lineup includes a diverse range of materials, including BBO, LBO, KTP, and AgGaS₂ and GaSe for the infrared and mid-infrared regions. Featuring high nonlinearity coefficients, phase matching characteristics, and excellent laser damage resistance, these materials are widely applicable to processing, measurement, and research applications, and we also offer various customization options.

Product Selection

When selecting a nonlinear crystal, it is important to consider the laser wavelength to be used, the desired conversion process (SHG, THG, OPO, etc.), output power, and pulse characteristics.
BBO and LBO are widely used for highly efficient conversion from visible to ultraviolet, with LBO being particularly suitable for high-power lasers. KTP is widely used for frequency conversion of Nd:YAG lasers due to its high nonlinearity and ease of use.
In the mid-infrared region, AgGaS₂, AgGaSe₂, and GaSe are suitable, and the optimal material is selected according to the wavelength band and power output conditions. Furthermore, characteristics such as transmission range, phase matching conditions, nonlinear coefficients, and damage thresholds greatly affect performance.
In the mid-infrared region, crystals such as AgGaS₂, AgGaSe₂, GaSe, and CdSe are used depending on the application and wavelength range.

Technical supplement
Nonlinear crystals utilize the property that their dielectric polarization responds nonlinearly to the intensity of incident light to generate new wavelength components. By satisfying the phase matching condition, energy conversion efficiency is maximized, making it possible to obtain light of the desired wavelength with high efficiency.
Crystal transmission properties, birefringence, nonlinear coefficients, and damage thresholds significantly affect conversion efficiency and output stability; therefore, selecting materials optimized for the laser conditions is crucial.
