CO2 sensor Gas Sensing Solutions (GSS)

In-house manufactured LEDs and photo detectors

LED and photo detector manufactured by GSS
Light emitting diodes (LEDs) and photodiodes (PD) are key items to maximize the performance of CO2 sensors. Gas Sensing Solutions (GSS) manufactures mid-infrared LEDs and photodiodes (photosensors, detectors) with proprietary solid-state technology using state-of-the-art molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) equipment.
Mid-infrared LEDs manufactured by GSS are used in the core of all GSS non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) gas sensors. This unique mid-infrared LED illuminates the target gas, and the amount of light absorbed by the gas is detected by a unique optical system and optical sensor to measure the concentration of the gas.
Achieve uncompromising sensor performance
As an example, CO2 gas is strongly absorbed by light outside 4.25um. The mid-infrared LEDs for CO2 gas manufactured by GSS are specially designed to emit narrow band light centered on 4.25 μm. By limiting the light other than the measurement wavelength, the measurement accuracy is improved and the power consumption is suppressed.
This solid-state technology ultra-low power LED light source provides low power consumption and is ideal for applications that run on battery power for years.

How the CO2 sensor works

It works by measuring the amount of infrared light absorbed by CO2 gas. The more light that is absorbed, the more CO2 is present. This method is known as non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) gas sensing. Light is emitted from the LED, passes through CO2 gas, and is reflected by the gold optics. The reflected light is converted into an electric current by the photodiode. This output provides accurate CO2 measurements.

Main applications

By monitoring CO2 levels, it is possible to determine if the air in the room is fresh and to assess whether it is properly ventilated. It can be used as a means of measuring the freshness of invisible air.
GSS CO2 sensors are used in a wide range of markets, including indoor air monitoring, medical equipment, food manufacturing, and healthcare.
  • Air chamber and HVAC system
  • Food packaging
  • Healthcare
  • Indoor air room (IAQ)
  • Food transportation
  • MAP gas mixer
  • Building management system (BMS)
  • Smart agriculture
  • Sports science
  • Demand Controlled Air Conditioning (DCV) System
